IMPORTANT BIBLE QUESTIONS

My teachers at school are really good at their jobs. They want to help me learn as much as I can while I am in their classes. But I have noticed that they sometimes play a trick on me. When they want me to learn something important, they ask me a question. For example, they may ask, “Blake, what is 10 minus 6?” I know the answer to that. It’s “4.” But sometimes my teachers ask me questions, and I don’t know the answer. If that happens, I have to go find the answer. When I do, then I learn something new. And I usually remember it from then on.

The Bible also teaches us things by asking questions. In fact, the Bible is filled with lots of important questions. In Exodus 5:2, the king of Egypt asked an important question when he said, “Who is God?” In John 18:38, a ruler by the name of Pilate once asked, “What is truth?” That is another important question.

But one of the most important questions in the Bible is found in Acts 2:37. The people who had killed Jesus knew they had sinned. So, they asked Peter, “What shall we do?” They wanted to be saved from their sins. Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned.” This means that we are sinners, too. So we should be asking the same question those people asked. “What shall we do to be saved from our sins?”

If we do not know the answer to that question, it’s OK. We can go to the Bible to find the answer. If we want to be saved from our sins, we first have to hear what God says to us. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Then, we have to believe that Jesus is God’s Son. In John 3:16 we learn, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” We also have to repent of our sins. When we repent, that means we are sorry for what we have done. It also means that we will try not to do the same bad things any more. Jesus said in Luke 13:3, “Unless you repent you will all perish.”

However, those things are not all we have to do. We must be willing to confess Jesus as our Savior. In Romans 10:10, Paul wrote, “With the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” But there is one last thing we have to do to be saved from our sins. Listen to what Peter told the people who asked him the question, “What shall we do?” In Acts 2:38 Peter said, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”

The Bible does not just ask us important questions. It also gives us the answer to those questions. God wants us to be saved from our sins. When we do the five things I’ve just talked about, we become Christians. Then we are children of God. And God has promised that He will save His children so they can be in heaven with Him forever. Are you a Christian? If not, why not? Don’t you want to go to heaven?
