THE MIRACLE OF CREATION

In the past, God has performed many amazing miracles. For example, He parted the waters of the Red Sea so the people of Israel could escape from Pharaoh’s soldiers. He also caused the walls of Jericho to fall down without anyone ever laying a hand on them. He even caused the Sun to stand still so the Israelites could win a battle against their enemies. And He raised His Son Jesus from the dead three days after He was killed by wicked men.

But none of these miracles would have been possible if it had not been for a miracle that had taken place many years earlier. Moses said in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” In that one verse, Moses told us about one of the most important miracles of all—the miracle of creation. Genesis 1 tells us that God created the entire Universe. He created galaxies, solar systems, and stars. And He did it in just six days! Hebrews 1:3 tells us that God created everything “by the word of His power.”

But God also created a special place called Earth where He put plants, animals, and humans. Genesis 1:11-12 says, “Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, and it was so.” Notice the four small words, “and it was so.” God gave a command like “Let the earth bring forth grass,” and the Bible says “it was so.” Whenever God wanted to create something, He simply spoke the words and whatever He said happened. Hebrews 1:3 says that God created everything “by the word of His power.” What an amazing miracle that is!

People today who believe in evolution try to tell us that there is no God. They say that the Earth and all living things evolved slowly over millions of years. They also believe that man came from an ape-like animal. But the Bible tells us that is not true. In Genesis 1:26 God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness.” Genesis 2 tells us that God made man from the dust of the ground. After He made man, He then made woman out of a rib that He took from man’s side. The Universe did not begin because of some “big bang.” And man did not “evolve” from some type of animal. Each of those things would be a natural event. The Bible tells us that God created everything by using a supernatural event. In other words, God used a miracle. Psalm 33:8-9 says, “Let all the people of the world stand in awe of God. He spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood fast.” This is the Bible’s way of telling us that God did not use natural events to bring things into existence. Instead, God used the miracle of creation. We are here today because of what God did, and we should be grateful to Him for that miracle. We also should be thankful to God for sending His Son Jesus to die for our sins. God has worked many important miracles for us in the past. We are blessed to have a heavenly Father Who loves us so much, and Who wants us to go to heaven to live with Him forever. That will be the greatest miracle of all!
